The Sacred Goddess of Dharan
Dantakali Temple is dedicated to the goddess Dantakali and is associated with the teeth (danta) of Sati — one of the Shakti Peeth shrines of Nepal. Set on the Bijayapur hillside above Dharan, it draws devotees throughout the year, with the largest crowds during Dashain and the Navaratri festival.
The Temple Experience
The approach through stone-paved steps lined with prayer flags and small shrines gives the climb a quietly devotional feel. From the temple steps there are wide views back over Dharan.
Festival Season
Navaratri (coinciding with Dashain) is the most vibrant time to visit: the temple is decorated and special pujas are held, and thousands of pilgrims make the journey — especially around Navami.
Please dress modestly and remove your shoes before entering the temple complex. Hotel Gorkha can arrange comfortable transport to Dantakali Temple — ask our front desk.
